How can I bring in more than two participants into a call?

September 16, 2016 Posted in: MCU Bridge Hits: 1131

If you have more than two people who want to collaborate on a conference, you will want to use the Multipoint Conferencing Unit. MUSC has a Codian 5320 MCU capable of up to 20 endpoints in HD at 720p30. HD units conferencing with older standard definition equipment will see a dramatic improvement in quality when using the HD MCU.

    Rendevous/AdHoc Multipoint Conference

Unless you have specific needs, you can create your own conference without involving anyone in OCIO-IS. To create a conference, dial 9xxxx where xxxx is a unique 4-digit conference ID you make up yourself. This will create a conference where others can join at the same number.

If the other endpoints you want to connect are on-campus, tell them to dial the same 9xxxx number and they will join the conference.  Rendezvous/Ad Hoc calls can only be made within the MUSC network.

    Permanent/Pre-configured Conferencing:

Permanent/Pre-configured conferences allow the conference controller (or in some cases, another participant) to add participants to the conference. Permanent/Pre-configured conferences are preconfigured conferences on the MCU Bridge.

If a conference is going to be recurring, you will need to submit the information to TTT@musc.edu for us to create the meeting on the Conductor with these meetings following the 8XXXX dial scheme. If you want entities from outside of the MUSC network to connect you MUST have a Permanent/Pre-configured meeting created.
